Interior Plant Maintenance Services in Ontario – What We Do and Why It Matters

Keeping your indoor plants healthy and vibrant isn’t just about watering. At Verdant Interiors, we provide professional interior plant maintenance services designed to ensure your plants thrive year-round.

What Does Our Interior Plant Maintenance Include?

We offer two types of maintenance plans tailored to your needs:

  • Weekly Maintenance
Ideal for plants in standard pots. Our team visits weekly to keep your plants looking their best.
This ZZ Plant  – Zamioculcas zamifolia – is in a standard type pot and needs to have the soil moisture checked weekly.

Monthly Maintenance

  • Perfect for plants in self-watering pots like our favorite brand, Lechuza. These pots reduce watering frequency while maintaining optimal hydration.
This Fiddle Leaf Fern – Ficus lyatra – is in a Lechuza self watering plant. We only need to top up the reservoir every 5 or 6 weeks.

Our Comprehensive Care Checklist

Every visit includes:

Watering & Reservoir Check

  • We water plants or refill the reservoir for self-watering pots. Our favourite brand is Lechuza.

Pest Scouting

  • We inspect for pests and treat with Safer’s Insecticidal Soap, a safe and effective solution.
  • When we install plants they are clean and free of any pests. Most pests on interior plants come from people entering the facility. The “usual suspects” we encounter are usually mealy bugs. Safer’s soap will deal with them in good order.
Not a great photo, but this is a mealy bug.

 Leaf Care

  • Remove discolored leaves and perform any necessary pruning.

Quarter Turn

  • Rotate plants for even light exposure and balanced growth.
The plants all get rotated a 1/4 turn each visit AND we periodically change their positions as well. Mixes things up a bit.

Dusting

  • Clean pots and leaves to keep plants looking fresh and healthy.
We make a bit of a mess doing our “stuff” so we make sure to not only clean the plants but the areas the plants are in.

Periodic Fertilizer Application

  • We use Plat-Prod 20-10-20 Interior Plant Fertilizer. This product was specifically designed to be used on interior plants. It contains mainly nitrate based nitrogen which means it will have good uptake in interior plants regardless of how bright it is. A bonus: it contains NO DYE so any spill will not damage furniture or carpets.

Detailed Reporting

  • We record all observations on our timesheet and report any irregularities to you promptly.

Both partners in the business are graduates of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture. The horticultural training they received is likely the best in North America. Before the Butterfly Conservatory was build, Matt would attend the Niagara Parks Conservatory to learn, among other things, tropical plant care. Morgan was able to learn tropical plants in the Butterfly Conservatory.

Deep in Ontario’s shaded forests grows one of the province’s most unforgettable native plants: Actaea pachypoda, better known as White Baneberry or the hauntingly beautiful Doll’s‑eyes. With its ghost‑white berries perched on vivid red stalks, this woodland perennial is both a striking visual surprise and an important part of our forest ecology. Though highly toxic to humans, its berries feed local birds, and its spring flowers support pollinating insects—quietly contributing to the health and balance of Ontario’s woodland ecosystems. This captivating plant is a reminder that even the forest floor holds stories worth noticing.
